Shes SOLD!!!!!

Thanks everyone for the emails and the interest!! but she is no longer available.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

I recently had someone back out of a commission, normally (99.9% of the time) I ask for a materials deposit up front but this time (like a fool) i didn't and its put me in a bit of a spot.

Shes been sitting around the studio looking incredibly bored for over 2 months now as Ive waited patiently on payment, anyways, im offering her for sale to anyone who's interested. Shes $725 plus $40 shipping if you're in the US and $80 if you are international. anyone interested email me at bishonenhouse (at) yahoo.com

She also comes with an additional unpainted face-plate!

As most of you know because I hand make all of my dolls myself at all stages and because i always have a que of commissions, when you commission a doll from me it takes anywhere from a month to many, many, many months for me to complete your order.

Heres a rare chance to get one of my dolls instantly (well,.. because of shipping it will take 3-4 days to get her if you're in the states, a little longer for international) and oh yea, her edition of 10 is SOLD OUT, so its also the last chance to get her at all. If i don't get any interest in her on here ill be posting her on eBay in a few days. If you know any doll folks who may be interested then please share :-)

Steve is finally for sale!!!

Journal Entry: Fri Oct 26, 2012, 8:20 AM
If you haven't been following my tumblr [link] (which an oddly large amount of people follow) or my other DA page [link] (which an oddly miniscule amount of people follow) your probably asking yourself who the hell is Steve!?

Well this is Steve...

:

Hes a new 17" figure ive been working on for a while, Originally i intended to only use him for a stop motion styled comic project but so many people liked him when i took him to Otakon i decided to make him available. (see link below)

[link]

This site is of course is for pre-ordering Steve, This is the first time in over 4 years Ive done an official pre-order, this will actually give me time to catch my breath and make all of them. The Steve dolls will begin shipping in February 2013.  You will be e-mailed the remaining total plus shipping when your doll is complete.

I will be making these in order of purchase so those who order their dolls first will receive their dolls first.  Like all of my dolls, Steve is 100% artist made: His costume is handmade by Dreux Priore of EggAngel and his body and accessories will be entirely handmade by myself, Donn Kinney.

For those wondering which additional faceplate will be included with him the answer is,.. Im not sure but It will be something very different from the default "smirking smile" that hes pictured with, the extra face will be probably be something like his angry face or his sad/pouty face.

Additional faceplates WILL be available for him after his February release, ( Steve has more faceplates than a sane person would ever want, LOL) The reason Im not opening up ordering for them right now is faceplates take ALLOT of time to make and finish and id prefer to stagger the releases so ill actually have time to catch up and finish the dolls by Feb.

For more photos/information about Steve check out my Tumblr page, [link] My DonnKinney DA page (be sure watch me and fave lots of stuff over on my other page, its lonely there, LOL ;-) ) [link] or of course my facebook page [link]

For any questions not answered on the site please fee free to email me at bishonenhouse (at) yahoo (dot) com

Reflecting on Otakon 2012

Journal Entry: Sat Aug 11, 2012, 11:58 AM
Otakon was incredible, even though I missed 2 years it was like no time had passed.

Ive been going to Otakon for over 10 years now, In that time Ive met shy highschool kids who would always visit my table and lament not being able to afford my dolls, grow up, graduate college, begin careers and then return to me to commission several custom pieces.  Ive seen convention friends meet, get married and have children, and see their children begin school all in that time! and on a more somber note I also had a friend pass away, he would always drop by my table every year and talk shop (sometimes for hours on end, haha), he was truly missed this year.

so much can change in ten years,... but allot of things stay the same.

Thanks to everyone who dropped by to say hi, both old friends and new!, I tried my darnedest to visit everyone who took the time to drop by and say hi but i unfortunately only found about 40% of you (next year im carrying the map around) I was super lucky to be next to Danielle (poisonbleu) this year, she was a wonderful con neighbor and a very talented artist, I am in total awe of people who can knit as well as she can!

Because of a chemistry mishap my girl didn't make it to the con but Steve made his public Debut, all "17 inches of resiny glory,(both nude and clothed versions of him) and the moody lil freak seemed to gain quite a few fans  ;-)

Cosplaying again was more fun than i remembered, it was both surreal and endearing having teary eyed fanboys come up to me all day confessing how hard they cried when John Marston met his fate.  To my pleasant surprise the costume was actually quite comfortable, It was oppressively hot in Baltimore as usual and even so i felt fine all day :-)

I hope to see everyone again next year!!!

At my table ill have prints, copies of my book and probably a few assorted BJD scaled props for sale. Dreux also says he will have some of his BJD silk-screened tees for sale as well (some of them are a riot) I will also have my finished 26" girl sculpt on display (for the first time EVER as well as a couple of the sculpts sculpts from that comic project Ive been working on (for those who don't follow my other page or my tumblr page)  I'm talking about this guy (see pic below)

I plan on being in costume all day Saturday, (possibly Friday night as well) so if you see a John Marston running about on either of those days it could possibly be me :-)

Sooo for all attending please be sure to stop by and say hey!!, dont be shy, the BH crew may look rough but were all very nice, I promise :D

For more info about Otakon check out---> [link]

And last but not least for those who didnt get my last journal post,
I've actually begun another deviant art page :icondonnkinney: which I will be devoting to my non-Bishonen House work, in particular an interesting comic project (done entirely with sculpted characters, sets and props) that's been in the works for some time,.. I'll mainly be posting finisehd work there but for now those interested can see some process pics on my Tumblr page---> [link]

There's not much on it now but within the next few months I will be adding a lot more so please feel free to give me a watch if you're interested in figure/sculpture/miniature craziness.

Otakon, Tumblr and the other DA page..

Journal Entry: Sun Jun 10, 2012, 1:33 PM
  Hey everyone,

It's been a while since my last post so I thought it was time for an update.

In the nexct day or so I'll be finisehd with the eight Corban commissions and very soon I'll have the molds for my girl sculpt finisehd.  I posted some new process photos on the Bishonen House Facebook page for anyone who's interested.

For those east coast anime con goers, I will be displaying and selling my work in Otacon's artist alley this year! It's been two years since I was in Otacon's AA and I'm really excited to be back this year, I plan on having my new girl sculpt along with some (never seen before) "17 inch character sculpts on display. I'll be posting more details as we get closer to the date of the convention.  For more info about Otakon check out---> [link]

It's finally summer here so work on the studio has begun again, it's of course going slow because it's taking a backseat to my full-time doll work but progress is being made. The ornamental work on the front gable was just completed yesterday and soon as i have pics ill be posting them..

And last but not least (and some of you already know about this) I've actually begun another deviant art page :icondonnkinney: which I will be devoting to my non-Bishonen House work, in particular an interesting comic project (done entirely with sculpted characters, sets and props) that's been in the works for some time,.. I'll mainly be posting finisehd work there but for now those interested can see some process pics on my Tumblr page---> [link]

There's not much on it now but within the next few months I will be adding a lot more so please feel free to give me a watch if you're interested in figure/sculpture/miniature craziness.

Until next time take care everyone.

Ankle deep in bodyparts...

Journal Entry: Tue Feb 7, 2012, 1:11 PM
  Hey Everyone,

Sorry for the long delay in updating but currently I'm buried in doll work, every flat surface in my living area is covered in bodyparts in various stages of completion, (not a sight for the timid).. Ive worked nearly every day for the past two months and im still not caught up, unfortunately I have the weather working against me..
Normally we have cool dry weather here in the winter which is ideal for doing large scale casting work but this year we've had abnormally warm and wet humid weather which is miserable when your trying to get flawless resin casts (and LOTS of them).. my work is getting completed but at about half the speed it normally goes, I think i might be the only one here in WV wishing for cold weather..haha

Im hoping to post some new news and new pics by the end of the week (hopefully) Not only about my current doll work but about that "other" project...

Ive been so busy with my commissions that I'm behind on answering my PMs and questions, I'm going to try and get caught up on them in the next couple of days.. Sorry to everyone for the long delay.

A name has been chosen!!

Journal Entry: Thu Dec 22, 2011, 8:54 PM
My new doll sculpt will from this day will be known as Corbin.

Thank you plushabilities :iconplushabilities: for coming up with a great name!!!

Plushabilities will receive a one of a kind mounted "clay grey" resin cast of my new dolls faceplate (see below) and a copy of my softbound book, The Dolls of Bishonen House

Logan' means 'small, round hill' in Gaelic ,  Corbin, means 'steep hill', being Logans older (and wiser) bother i think its incredibly appropriate! :-)

Thanks to everyone who participated, it was a hard decision and my judges took their time on it, there were sooo many really good names, but do not fret there will be a naming contest for my girl sculpt coming up very soon, so keep an eye out for it!!!

thanks again everyone, and sorry for the delay in posting this, my judges really DID take their time, haha!

The Naming Contest (CLOSED)

Journal Entry: Thu Dec 8, 2011, 1:44 PM
The contest is officially closed! Thanks to everyone for participating!! between my Facebook page and my Deviant Art page there are over 60 names submitted!! and all very good ones!! :-)  Be sure to check back on the evening of the 22nd for the winner!!, and to find out the name of Logans older brother (see pics below)

When coming up with a name the most important thing to ask yourself is does the name suit HIM?, while Dohorngorax might be an "unusual" or "interesting" name (for the munchkin emperor of Pluto)  It doesn't really suit my new guy,.. Keep this in mind when choosing a name and you will be more likely to win!

     OK now onto the rules....

1. You can enter only once, ..that's right just ONE name once, so make it count!... if you enter more than once ONLY your first entry will be counted!!.

2. you can submit your entry here OR on my Facebook page (don't enter on both pages, lets keep it classy folks :-) ) And don't post your entry anywhere but as a comment in this journal entry or in the Facebook naming Contest post.

3. If several people choose the same name only the first person to have chosen that name will be named the winner and receive the prizes, so you may want to check the list of already posted names before you post yours.

4. the contest ends at 12:00 Midnight on December the 16th  U.S. Eastern Time Zone... and the winner will be posted sometime on December the 22st so be sure to check back,..if you win I will need your address to mail the prizes!,.. SO.... If your one of those people who hides every trace of who you are and keeps all your accounts locked to anyone but the closest of closest of friends PLEASE check back, otherwise I will NOT be able to contact you and send you your super cool winnings :-)

5. The winner will receive a one of a kind mounted "clay grey" resin cast of my new dolls faceplate (see below) and a copy of my softbound book, The Dolls of Bishonen House,.. both will come signed.

I will not be the one who chooses the winning name, so if you don't happen to win sending me grumpy emails will do no good,..haha. Like last time, I have a panel of artist friends who will make the final decision and choose the winning name out of all the entries.

there are no requirements to enter the contest but i would greatly appreciate it if you entered that you at gave a fave to one of the photos of my new guy,.. now wouldn't you feel tacky if you won and you didn't even fave the guy you named? hmm? ;-)

So i say to all, good luck and let the contest begin!!!

I'll be at Nekocon 14!

Journal Entry: Thu Sep 8, 2011, 11:23 AM
Hey Everyone,

For those of you on the US east coast (and those willing to travel from great distances) I have been invited to be a guest artist at Nekocon 14! (Nov. 4-6) hampton Raods VA.

Heres a link to the official website--->  [link]

I will be displaying and selling my work in the artist alley, if you don't have the cash for a doll ill also have props, clothing, books and prints for sale as well :-)

At Nekocon I will also be presenting 2 panels, One on doll making where I will discuss the process creating my newest female BJD sculpt, From sculpting to mold making to final casting. I'll also give everyone who attends a sneak peak at a very special doll related project that's in the works ( If you like dolls/action figures, stop motion animation and comics you don't want to miss it ) ;-)

I'll also present a panel on set making for doll photography, I will demonstrate different techniques to create in scale sets and environments to use when photographing dolls. I will begin with basic materials and construction techniques, discuss the repurposing of found objects versus creating scratch built props as well as using digital techniques to extend and enhance handmade environments.

Doll work and studio work has turned me into a bit of a recluse, because of this Nekocon will be the first east coast anime con that ill have displayed at in over 3 years so anyone who's nearby who'd like to say hi, talk shop or see my work in person please be sure to stop by, I have no idea when ill be able to do another east coast con so it may be a while...

For those who didn't notice (but for some strange reason are reading my journal post) I'm finally nearing completion on my first female BJD sculpt, there are a few more photos of her posted on my facebook page for anyone interested!

The studio is still progressing, thanks to Dreux the wiring is nearly finished and it should only be a matter of weeks before I'm hooked up to the grid!  its still my goal to be working out there before everything freezes over so Ive only got a couple of months left to get the rest in working order.

And last but not least, for those of you who admire the amazing costumes on my dolls please stop by Dreux's aka Eggangels (somewhat new) DA page, hes not very active yet, but please give him a hia watch and a fave or two, goodness knows his work deserves it!! :-)

:iconeggangel:

My next post will be in mid October and my last before Nekocon, In it i will post more detailed Info about my location in the AA and times and places for my pannels!.
       Untill then, everyone take care!,

Spring 2011 and the status of Logan

Journal Entry: Sun May 8, 2011, 11:56 AM
Hey Everyone,

Its been a while since Ive posted but after being completely booked up and slightly overwhelmed with casting work and doll commissions for the past two months I'm finally starting to catch up so i figured it was time for an update.

I'm sorry but also happy to say that Logan is sold out, all 25 are sold and taken, I'm currently finishing up on the last 3 of them. The Logan expression plates are still available until June 1st, For those of you who do not have Logan I want you to know the Logan expressions will work with ALL of my 2.0 doll bodies, after June 1st I will not be taking orders for any more Logan faces.
I really like Logan and I'm sorry to see him go, he was one of the most popular dolls Ive ever released, but after making 25 Logan dolls, 10 tan Logan dolls, One gothic white Logan doll and 44 Logan expression plates its time to move onto something new! :-)

My new girl sculpt is just about completely finished (i know i keep saying that), Ive made more alterations and fixes on her than i can count, I keep delaying her because i want her as nice as i can get her before i invest the time and money to make the final master molds (molding big dolls is expensive) And as my first girl sculpt id like to get her right. :-)

My newest male character sculpt is almost finished, He is Logan's (yet unnamed) older brother,....hmmmm i smell another naming contest!

To sculpt him I used Logan's skull as a base, he and Logan share the same jawline and very similar lips but aside from those features hes something completely new. Ive always wanted to sculpt a slightly older man (early to mid 40s) and an even more masculine male character (not that Logan wasn't 10x more masculine than most bjd men, haha) I'm having allot of fun sculpting his little face wrinkles and laugh lines, having just turned 39 I have allot of reference every morning when i look in the mirror, haha

Slowly but surely the studio is still coming along, when i have all my current doll commissions completed now that the weathers nice I should be able to get allot more work on it finished , right now all of the exterior doors and windows are in and I'm just starting on the siding. I'm still hoping to have it complete and functional by the end of summer/ early fall... I would love it if i could have my first casting/doll workshops in 2012!,...sigh..

Until my next newsletter (with actual new doll pictures)
  take care all

IDEX the studio and other things...

Journal Entry: Wed Jan 26, 2011, 12:40 PM
Hi Everyone,

I just wanted to let everyone know that I will not be attending IDEX this year, this will be the first time I've missed the show since I started going 4 years ago.

It would seem as though the month of January has it in for me, I cant think of anything else bad that could happen aside from (In no particular order) meteor strike, rabid monkey attack or death.

So to everyone I look forward to seeing every year at IDEX, I'm sorry I'm not going to be able to attend, hopefully I'll be at the show next year.

   Now, On a Happy Note,..

The studio has come along quite a bit since I last mentioned it in my journal.

That photo was taken back at the end of October, unfortunately because of the unusually cold winter we've had there has been no work done since then, but once the world starts to thaw I'll be putting in my windows and doors and finishing the outside and the electricity, hopefully once summer arrives it will at least be functional although not completely finished inside, I'm funding the entire construction with the money I make on my doll sales and casting work, (no bank loans, no credit cards) so the building pace is steady but slow, but I can at least see the finish line now :-)

Once its completely finisehd I plan on teaching doll making and casting/moldmaking workshops here, both beginnaer and advanced. Also, my studio will be open to anyone who has purchaed my work in the past to drop by and see the actual process of how I went about creating their doll :-)

Ive finally finished the Logan expression plates,

It might not seem like much but Ive been working on these guys FOREVER! I started over from scratch several times while sculpting them and did about a dozen revisions on these before I was finally happy with them.

Heres a link showing them in "action" haha

For everyone who hasn't seen it yet there was a DA article on BJD artists, you can take a look at it here [link] I was shocked upon seeing the article at how much a ramble on about making dolls, seriously my answers are ridiculously huge, I'm almost embarrassed but at the same time i did answer the questions honestly and with as much thought as I could.

So anyone interested in reading It, click the link above and take a look. :-)

And on a sad but happy note Logan is nearly sold out, there are only 2 of him left,..yes there are only 2 of him in the known universe that are for sale and once they are gone I WILL NOT be making any more Logans, I will be making his additional expression faceplates up until the first of June.

Logan was one of my favorite sculpts and it will be sad to see him go but at the same time it will be nice to move on to new character sculpts. :-)

Until my next post, I hope everyone is well!
   take care,

On display at the Clay Center,

Journal Entry: Wed Apr 21, 2010, 7:27 PM

Hi Everyone,

A few weeks ago I was notified that my Expression Sampler #2 was accepted into the 67th Allied Artists Juried Exhibition.

The news came as a bit of a shock to me but a very pleasant shock. Ive always dreamed about seeing my work in a museum, even In a temporary exhibit, and now here we are :-) (Yea i realize this sort of thing is common place to quite a few of you) but for the crazy guy who sits all day in a little room sculpting dolls its exiting!!! :-D

The piece will be on display at the Clay Center in Charleston WV from May 1st to June 27th.

Aside from getting work into the show and selling a few dolls, One in Russia and one in Switzerland. not much has happened, Ive been away for the past three weeks helping a close friend on some set work (Which I'll be posting either later tonight or in the next day or so.)
I'm just beginning to get back into my doll work and I'm planning (unless anything else comes up) to have my next doll sculpt finisehd sometime in June, Ive been working on her for years "literally" and I'm very close to finishing her but it seems as though every time i begin to make good progress I'm pulled away for some reason..

Oh well,..Hopefully soon ill have something to show of her :-)

Ebay Doll Auction and Facebook Fan page..

Journal Entry: Mon Feb 22, 2010, 11:13 PM

Hi Everyone,

Since 2004 anyone interested in my work could (though my website) subscribe to my newsletter, Ive always had problems sending out newsletters because of spam blockers and because of the size of my mailing list (a little over 2000 people) To save what little sanity I have left I've decided to replace my newsletter with a fan page on Facebook. This way everyone who would like to join will get instant updates when I post doll/show information or new pics of my latest releases.

If you are a facebook member and interested in my work please feel free to join, Aside from being a source of the latest BH news and information on new doll releases, shows and auctions there is a special fan gallery for everyone to upload and share photos of their very own BH dolls.

As some of you know over the past two years Ive been slowly building "piece by piece" a larger studio space to work in, since I left the city Ive been doing all of my doll work in a 10x10 room and believe me when you are making, finishing and packing dolls as large as mine 10x10 gets crowded very fast. :-)
With spring on the way I'm determined to get my larger workshop space under roof before next winter so from now until early summer I will be periodically posting a new doll and costume set on EBay to hopefully raise some extra money to add into my lumber fund.
Sooo tonight on EBay Dreux of eggangel.com has posted an auction for a complete Ian set (One of my Ian dolls and a very cool complete costume made by Dreux).
The auction will start at $700 which is $100 less than my standard Ian which does not come with any clothing.
If any of you are interested then bid bid bid! ha,ha or if you know anyone who may be interested in one of my dolls please be sure to pass on the information,

The auction will go on for seven days and will end next Monday night, March 1st!

see the auction here--->[link]

As always if anyone has any questions please feel free send me a note or send me an email through my webpage or you can post any questions you have on the Bishonen House Facebook wall,...

For anyone interested in doll or clothing purchases at the show id recommend visiting my table early on, since all of my work is handmade by myself and Dreux I rarely bring more than 3-4 dolls and only a few clothing Items, If this year is anything like the past two Ive sold out of nearly everything before noon on Sunday.

heres hoping this year is just like the last two!!!, :-)

To anyone attending the show please drop by and say hey!

Doll Photos Galore, and getting ready for IDEX

Journal Entry: Sat Dec 5, 2009, 10:19 AM
The December Issue of Doll Reader is out so I can finally post all the photos from the Bishonen House fashion show from the November Issue..

Ive also posted a pic of my next LE release, which is a vampy/goth version of my first 2.0 release Dean. I'm only making 5 of these and its probably going to be my LAST release for a long time, or at least until I finish my new body sculpts which ill probably now be releasing around the end of spring.

Right now I'm working like mad to get everything finished before IDEX so with the holidays coming up more than likely I wont be on that much. My next post will probably be before i leave for IDEX, (the International Doll Exposition) which is in Orlando Florida again this year at the end of January.

I hope everyone has a good holiday...(or at least one that Isn't tooo bad ;-))
  so until then

The November Issue of Doll Reader is out!

Journal Entry: Tue Oct 27, 2009, 8:15 PM
Hey all,

Just a very short update to let everyone know I'm still breathing, and still working on new things.

I also wanted to let everyone know the November issue of Doll Reader is out on news stands!!!, In the November issue on pages 20-25 is a really wild fashion show that me and Dreux did with my dolls, his costumes and one very large runway set that we made just for the article. The fashion article which the photos accompany was also written by Dreux, If your even remotely interested in subculture and edgy fashion its a must read!!.

The photo shoot was done back in July and i haven't been able to post a single image from it until now, In the next day or so I'm going to post a few of the images that didn't make it into the article, to see the rest of them (and in my opinion the best of them) your going to have to make a trip to the nearest bookstore or news stand that carries Doll Reader and take a look for yourself. :-)

This is the DR to look for

The end of summer,...

Journal Entry: Fri Aug 28, 2009, 11:46 PM
Hello All,

I'm finally just starting to recover from my Philadelphia/New Jersey trip,

There was a slight miscommunication and both events ended up being 2 weeks earlier than I thought, needless to say I had so much to get together and finish I didn't sleep more than a couple hours total for the 3 days leading up to the meet and greet at Happily Ever After in Philadelphia
To the really great people who showed up just to say hi and pick up their dolls I apologize if I seemed a little bit out of it but 3 days with virtually no sleep makes me even spacier than normal, :-)

The event in NJ was also really great, I got a couple of commissions, met allot of really nice people, plus a few collectors who already owned several of my dolls who showed up to meet me! which was incredibly cool and incredibly flattering.

It was also really fun to spend the day hanging out with Ed and Glenn from HEA, as well as hanging out with my friend, cohort and partner in doll craziness Dreux from Eggangel.com

Even thought I was incredibly tired for both events I had a great time, It was nice to get away for a bit and recharge creatively,. After everything was over I went back to Fairmont WV with Dreux and stayed over at his place for a few days to recover.  Fairmont is one of the most peaceful places on earth so it was just what i needed.

Im back to work on commissions and Ive finally started sculpting again on my two new body sculpts (hopefully they will both be completed by Idex) but ive taken this long so im not rushing them, Im still working on that fan art piece thats now wayyy behind but since its just for fun theres no reason to rush on it :-)

Im also working on my next HEA limited edition...hmmm

Thanks again to everyone who dropped by at HEA and at the doll show, I'm sorry i didn't post the updated schedule for the Philly and NJ events before they happened but i was so busy getting everything ready and packing dolls on short notice that i completely forgot.

Hopefully next time I'll get the dates right.. :-(

     Donn..

Oh yea, Even though I'm sure everyone's getting tired of seeing pics of him, (trust me i have a pile of new pics to post soon as that article is out, haha) I posted two new pics of my LE Tan Logan, this time hes actually dressed, wearing the amazing outfit that came with him that was designed and handmade by Dreux Priore, of www.eggangel.com
